VPNfacile Review 2024: Before You Buy, Is It Worth It?

VPNfacile Overview

On the face of it, this affordable French VPN looked to be a great option for those wanting to access French content. VPNFacile made bold claims of uncompromising speeds, air-tight security, and comprehensive unblocking capabilities of French content that I wanted to see if it could deliver on.

My testing revealed that this VPN was fraught with deal-breaking issues. This VPN was able to unblock a few popular streaming services and had some impressive speeds on a small selection of servers, but it failed in terms of security, privacy, and consistency. Some servers could not be connected to at all, such as the UK server, and a few servers were blatantly mislabeled.

VPNFacile just could not keep up with bigger names in the industry due to a relatively small server network, a lack of timely customer service, and slow speeds. Luckily, this VPN offers a generous 15-day money-back guarantee if you aren’t completely satisfied with your experience. This is quite a bit longer than many similarly-sized VPNs and gave me ample time to test all of the different aspects and features of the VPN.

Don’t Have Time? Here’s a 1-Minute Summary

VPNFacile Unblocks Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+ (But Can’t Access HBO Max, Amazon Prime Video, and BBC iPlayer)

VPNFacile was able to access most of the streaming services that it claims to be able to on its site. I was able to successfully unblock Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+ using a wide array of servers in various regions. I was impressed with the overall speed and quality of the streams. I did not run into any issues with buffering or lag when streaming my favorite shows.

As far as BBC iPlayer goes, I asked my colleague in the UK to see if they could access it and they found it impossible to test due to being unable to connect to the UK-based server at all. This was unfortunate, especially since BBC iPlayer is one of the services that VPNFacile claims to unblock. Without being able to connect to the UK server, streaming BBC iPlayer was impossible.

Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+: Unblocked

I was able to consistently unblock Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+ with VPNFacile. Though sometimes I was met with content from a different region from the one I connected to. This is because some of this VPN’s servers are labeled incorrectly and actually route you through a different region entirely. This can make it difficult to accurately access local content while abroad.

I did not experience any buffering or noticeable drops in quality when streaming content from Netlfix from a range of local and distant server regions. The only problem I ran into was that it was sometimes difficult to find the correct regional catalog of content given this VPN’s mislabeled servers.

VPNFacile let me stream content on Hulu in HD

I was impressed with how easy it was to stream my favorite shows with VPNFacile. Many VPNs struggle to unblock content from US Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+ consistently. I was able to get a quality stream regardless of how close or far the server was from my home location.

HBO Max, Amazon Prime Video, and BBC iPlayer: Blocked

VPNFacile was detected by Amazon Prime Video and HBO Max. It seemed to detect the VPN immediately, coming up with a “Not in Service Area or VPN Detected” error like the one below. Additionally, my colleague in the UK was unable to access BBC iPlayer due to the UK servers being inaccessible.

It looks like you’re using an anonymous proxy or VPN

If you’re looking for a VPN that can access all of these streaming platforms and more, I recommend trying out ExpressVPN. It unblocks all major platforms and allows you to access your paid content while traveling abroad.

Speed

- 5.0 / 10

VPNFacile has Inconsistent Speeds

For the most part, VPNFacile lives up to its claims of uncompromising connection speeds. I found that my speeds were not impacted too severely, but that my speeds varied quite a bit more than is ideal between local and distant servers.

Speed Test Results

While most servers stayed within that ideal range for speed, there were a few outliers. With a base home network speed of ~550Mbps, I found that the majority of VPNFacile’s servers were able to match that speed or fall within 10-15% of it. When connecting to a server in the Virgin Islands, my connection speed plummeted to under 5% of my base speed. I also found that connecting to a server in Sweden dropped my connection speed by roughly 50%.

A screenshot of speed test results while connected to VPNFacile

VPNFacile’s servers offered inconsistent connection speeds

It’s normal to expect a bit of a decrease in speed when connecting to servers further from your home location. However, the inconsistent drops made using this VPN frustrating. I performed multiple speed tests and found that previously fast regions would drop down by 50-60% on subsequent tests. It’s hard to know if you’re going to get a fast or a slow connection even when connecting to a server that was quick before.

The best VPNs offer consistent internet speeds regardless of your online activities. Based on my testing, I’ve found that ExpressVPN is the fastest VPN service available today. It is ideal for multitasking, so you can easily watch a movie while playing games and torrenting.

Is VPNFacile Fast Enough for Gaming? No.

While many of VPNFacile’s servers offer fast speeds, I found the latency to be far too high for competitive gaming. I tried to hop into a game of Rocket League and experienced noticeable lag, stuttering, and missed inputs. My ping fluctuates from a stable 40-50 to upwards of 250. The inconsistent latency made it impossible to game online.

Why Most Speed Tests are Pointless & How We Correctly Test VPN Speeds

Speed determines how fast content uploads, so if you're torrenting or streaming, you want the speed to be somewhat identical to your regular internet speed. Since a VPN encrypts your data, it usually takes a bit longer to send your data back and forth, which can slow down your connection. However, if your ISP deliberately slows down your connection (also known as throttling) a VPN might increase your internet speed. Testing a VPN is somewhat pointless because new servers pop up and affect speed. Your speed can also differ according to your location, so your speed test might not match ours. Having said that, we tested the speed in numerous locations to provide you with the average.

Servers

- 3.0 / 10

Server Network — Slim Server Network with Falsely Labeled Regions

VPNFacile’s site had a few discrepancies regarding the number of servers and the number of countries that the network covers. Some sections of the site list 31 serviced countries while others listed 29. After looking through the server page and double-checking it with the list in the application, I can confirm that VPNFacile has 54 servers across 29 countries.

A screenshot of VPNFacile's server list

VPNFacile’s network covers a basic range of regions

VPNFacile claims to have servers located in countries where other VPNs do not. This list includes Iceland, Fiji, China, Panama, Mexico, Pakistan, Peru, Antarctica, and North Korea. Some of these claims seemed a bit unbelievable, so I decided to test this using the North Korea and Antarctica servers. Instead of the connection going through North Korea, it went through Mechelen, Belgium. The “Antarctic” server was simply routed through Paris. These servers are blatantly misleading, especially since they are used as the main selling point for purchasing the VPN.

A screenshot showing that VPNFacile's Antarctica server goes through Paris

A quick connection test shows that some of VPNFacile’s servers are falsely labeled

You won’t find any specialized servers on the server list. There aren’t any that are optimized for streaming, gaming, or P2P connections. However, P2P/torrenting is permitted on any of the servers in the list with no restrictions. One thing that I found frustrating was that you could not pick specific servers. Rather, you can only select a region and the VPN will connect you to a random city-level server from the available options.

This automatic selection of the best server is marketed as a feature of the VPN, but I would have preferred an option to select my own server. On a positive note, VPNFacile owns all of its servers. This means that your data won’t be left in the hands of a third party. This fact is responsible for VPNFacile’s impressive connection speeds, as there is no additional routing or step when it comes to connecting to a server.

For a VPN with more advanced servers and a more expansive list of options, I recommend trying ExpressVPN as it has over 3,000 servers in 94 countries.

Editor's Note: Transparency is one of our core values at WizCase, so you should know we are in the same ownership group as ExpressVPN. However, this does not affect our review process, as we adhere to a strict testing methodology.

Security — Lacking Clarity

I was frustrated that VPNFacile does not list the form of encryption anywhere on its site or in the application. I would like to assume that this service is using industry-standard AES 256-bit encryption, but I cannot say for certain if that detail isn’t listed plainly on the site or in the privacy policy. It simply states that it uses “end-to-end” encryption, which doesn’t hold much meaning by itself.

VPNFacile uses OpenVPN as its sole server type. OpenVPN is a powerful and secure standard, though this VPN’s lack of additional server options like WireGuard and Bridge cause it to fall behind some of the bigger names in the industry.

After some digging around in the privacy policy, I found that VPNFacile does use SSL to secure its network. You can connect to the network through OpenVPN and use either TCP or UDP protocols through the application. Additionally, your data will be protected by DNSLeak.

This VPN has a kill switch that will cut your connection to the internet if you get disconnected from the VPN. You will have to go into the application settings to toggle this on manually. You can also set a custom list of applications that will close if your connection fails.

This VPN did not mention any independent audits or instances where its security measures have been put to the test. While it does seem as though VPNFacile has basic security measures in place, I had to take time to search policy documents for this information. Security is important, and that information should be much more accessible. The complete lack of specific encryption details makes me wary of trusting this VPN with sensitive information.

Privacy — VPN Logs Private User Information

Your private data and information are at risk while using VPNFacile. There was no mention of a no-log policy anywhere on VPNFacile’s Website. In fact, I found some troubling information in the privacy policy relating to how data is stored. VPNFacile states that your information is kept in a secure space that only a few people can access. That information wouldn’t need to be “protected” if it wasn’t kept in the first place.

A screenshot of VPNFacile's privacy policy

VPNFacile’s privacy policy states that it does store some user data

VPNFacile is located in France, which is part of a group of countries that share information and intelligence called the Nine-Eyes alliance. This does not mean that your data is automatically being shared with the countries in this alliance. It means that the additional risk of that data being shared with authorities from those countries is present.

For a VPN with an air-tight no-logs policy that is located outside of any information-sharing alliances, I recommend ExpressVPN. It does not keep user information of any sort, and it uses military-grade AES 256-bit encryption.

Torrenting — P2P Sharing Possible but Inconsistent

It is easy to use torrenting programs and P2P sites with VPNFacile. There are no restrictions in terms of torrenting. You can make use of P2P connections using any of the servers in the network. This VPN won’t limit your traffic or slow your connection for downloading too much data either.

That being said, torrenting speeds tend to be inconsistent due to the spotty server performance of the VPN as a whole. I downloaded a 5GB file from the public domain and went through the process on a range of local and distant servers. I found that some servers offered fast speeds that allowed me to download the file in just a few minutes. On the other hand, there were servers that crawled along and took upwards of 20 minutes.

As a note, I’d like to emphasize that my team and I do not support illegal torrenting, so make sure your country’s laws are followed, and never download any copyrighted material.

Does VPNFacile Work in China? Unclear

I contacted VPNFacile’s customer support to see if VPNFacile worked in China— and they never responded to any of my inquiries. I reached out across multiple social media platforms and repeatedly came up empty-handed. With no support response, I cannot say for certain whether or not this VPN functions in China. However, I suggest steering clear of this VPN if you are located in China due to its lack of a no-logs policy and vague encryption standards.

What’s more worrying for me is that VPNFacile claims to have 1 server located in China. Most reputable VPN companies don’t operate servers within the country because they would be subject to China’s censorship laws. This means the Chinese government can request data from the servers, and the VPN company would be legally required to comply, which puts your security and privacy at risk.

If you’re looking for another option, I suggest you give ExpressVPN a try. Its servers delete all your data automatically so nothing is ever stored, and it’s been tried and tested to access your favorite sites and apps from China.

User Experience

- 6.0 / 10

Simultaneous Device Connections — Not Very Many

VPNFacile allows a total of 5 simultaneous connections. This is lower than quite a few competitors. It likely won’t be enough to get all of your frequently used devices connected and secured. The VPN is configurable through a router, though no guidelines for this are present on the site. If you do attempt this, make sure that you have a router compatible with OpenVPN. When in doubt, have a professional configure it for you, as it is possible to damage your router if done incorrectly.

If you don’t want to worry about how many devices you have connected at a time, you may want to have a look at IPVanish, which allows an unlimited number of device connections.

Device Compatibility — Basic Device Compatibility

I was disappointed with VPNFaciles’ slim selection of compatible devices. It covers the basics, but it lacks custom apps and support for many frequently used devices like FireSticks, smart TVs, consoles. The operating systems that this VPN does support goes as follows—macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS, and Android. It’s not the best VPN for Windows due to its lackluster performance, and its lack of native apps for certain devices may limit your configuration options.

Ease of Setup & Installation — Inconsistent Language Options Make Setup Confusing

Initially, paying for and downloading VPNFacile was rather streamlined, but I ran into difficulties while using the application. You will be required to assign a username and password to your account, and you will be presented with the option of paying for the service with PayPal or with a credit card.

Once the payment is processed, there will be a few different download links for the various platforms that this VPN supports. It was as simple as clicking on the operating system that I was using to get the application downloaded. Additionally, you can access your account and view your subscription details by clicking on the “My Account” button, or the “Member Area” button of the Help section.

A screenshot of VPNFacile's member area

Despite selecting English as my primary language when making my account, the installer was in French and presented no options for changing the language. If you’re unsure about the specific content you’re agreeing to during the download, it can create some confusion. Additionally, after completing the installation process, the application automatically switched to French.

a screenshot of VPNFacile's settings page

You can toggle the language of VPNFacile’s text between English and French

This was a minor inconvenience to change since you have to go through the “Parametras” section (French for settings) and select English. However, this change will not happen immediately. You will need to close out the application and restart it for the text to change. Once that change is made, the application will automatically launch in your language of choice.

Support

- 1.0 / 10

VPNFacile’s support is slow and primarily in French. Given that this VPN is marketed towards French speakers traveling abroad, the language choice makes sense. The issue that I ran into is that there being an English option for the website can cause English speakers who want this VPN to assume that the language is fully supported when it is not.

VPNFacile offers a single form of ticket-based support in French

You can also reach out to the support team via email, Facebook, Twitter, or by filling out a contact form. All of these different methods landed similar results with no support member responding to my questions over the course of 4 business days. If you do get a reply, keep in mind that you are likely to get a reply in French even if you asked the team a question in English.

Unfortunately, this VPN does not have any sort of FAQ page or resource base for users to consult while waiting for a representative to respond. This can make troubleshooting on your own difficult, and this lack of resources only serves to make the support team’s job more difficult. Listing out answers to frequently asked questions is a great way to reduce the number of incoming tickets. For a more streamlined support experience, I recommend ExpressVPN. It has a 24/7 live support team with quick turnaround times from knowledgeable experts.

How We Test Customer Support and Why Should You Care

We personally test the customer support team of every VPN we review. This means asking technical question through the live chat feature (where applicable) and measuring the response time for email questions. Whether you need to connect to a specific server, change your security protocol, or configure a VPN on your router, finding a VPN with quality customer support should be important to you.

Pricing

- 7.0 / 10

VPNFacile is an affordable VPN that is priced competitively compared to other VPNs of similar size. The rate will vary based on the length of your subscription with the largest discount being for a year-long plan.

Unfortunately, you won’t have too many options as far as payment goes. This VPN only accepts credit cards and PayPal. There are no secure options for anonymous payment such as cryptocurrency.

VPNFacile does offer a lengthy 15-day trial where you can get a full refund for the service if it didn’t meet your expectations. You will have to contact the support team directly to cancel and refund your subscription. This was the only instance where I did hear back from the support team. It did take me a couple of days to hear back regarding my refund request, but the support team member granted the refund without trying to convince me otherwise.

VPNfacile offers the following plans

Final Verdict

I do not recommend VPNFacile due to its lack of a no-logs policy, a questionable encryption protocol, and falsely labeled server locations

You can get some fast, albeit, inconsistent speeds with this VPN as well as unblock a few streaming platforms. However, those benefits are not worth the risks to your data and privacy. This VPN has a long way to go before I would consider using it to protect sensitive information.

It is an affordable VPN, but it is well worth paying an extra dollar or so a month for a VPN that has much more to offer. VPNFacile fell far short of my expectations, even considering the price. There are many better value options that won’t provide false server locations or store your data.
