TorrentPrivacy VPN Review 2024: Before You Buy, Is It Worth It?
TorrentPrivacy VPN Overview
If you’re in a hurry, here’s the bottom line — You can get more servers globally, better VPN features, and 24/7 customer support with Surfshark for the same price or less. So why bother reading on?!
TorrentPrivacy is a UK-based provider that has been operating since 2007. When we knew that TorrentPrivacy is that experienced in the industry, we expected to find a highly advanced, highly reliable, and feature-loaded provider. Sadly this was not entirely true. Usually users put high expectations for old VPNs more than newly introduced ones. Let’s take a deeper dive into TorrentPrivacy and see what it’s all about. First of all, the network of servers is very limited but on the upside its secured with an advanced encryption. In addition, security protocols such as OpenVPN and PPTP are supported, even though PPTP is not considered entirely reliable anymore. One of the best points about TorrentPrivacy is that it is one of, if not the strongest supporters of P2P sharing/torrenting. The support goes to the extent of having its own built-in torrent client. This is a unique feature that you probably wouldn’t find with any other VPN provider.
To wrap it up, if you’re looking for a reliable secure VPN to protect your online security and privacy, and bypass online restrictions, there are many other VPN providers that would do a better job in this area at a more reasonable price. However, if you’re looking for a VPN strictly for P2P sharing or torrent downloading, TorrentPrivacy would probably be the most recommended provider.
Speed
- 8.0 / 10Why Most Speed Tests are Pointless & How We Correctly Test VPN Speeds
Speed determines how fast content uploads, so if you're torrenting or streaming, you want the speed to be somewhat identical to your regular internet speed. Since a VPN encrypts your data, it usually takes a bit longer to send your data back and forth, which can slow down your connection. However, if your ISP deliberately slows down your connection (also known as throttling) a VPN might increase your internet speed. Testing a VPN is somewhat pointless because new servers pop up and affect speed. Your speed can also differ according to your location, so your speed test might not match ours. Having said that, we tested the speed in numerous locations to provide you with the average.

User Experience
- 8.4 / 10Initially, when you observe the process of registering for, downloading, installing, and using TorrentPrivacy, it may appear remarkably straightforward and effortless, almost too good to be true. However, our initial skepticism was justified. Its apparent simplicity does come with a price. Before we seem too harsh, let’s take this step-by-step. As any other VPN service, it all starts by creating an account or registering which is a very straight forward procedure. All you need to do is enter an email, create a password and that’s it. After this point, the order of the steps you take doesn’t matter. You can either download the software first and then activate your account by submitting a payment or activate your account first and then download the client. Either way it won’t matter as long as you do both since the client won’t work unless you’re account is activated through the website.
The interface of the client is user-friendly but its components or its capabilities are still up for question. For instance, sometimes you’d need to adjust a few configurations in your router. We won’t go into too many details in that section. Fortunately most of the technical questions are answered in the FAQ section. Sadly we’re unable to give TorrentPrivacy a high rating in this area.
TorrentPrivacy might offer a good service at a reasonable price, but does it match up with other top VPNs? We find it hard to say “yes”. To be sure you’re choosing the right VPN for your needs, review this list of top recommended VPNs.
Support
- 8.4 / 10How We Test Customer Support and Why Should You Care
We personally test the customer support team of every VPN we review. This means asking technical question through the live chat feature (where applicable) and measuring the response time for email questions. Whether you need to connect to a specific server, change your security protocol, or configure a VPN on your router, finding a VPN with quality customer support should be important to you.
