Seed4Me VPN Review 2024: Before You Buy, Is It Worth It?

Seed4Me VPN Overview

While it is relatively easy for some VPN providers to promote their services as the best out there, only a handful deliver up to expectations. My search for a better and more affordable VPN led me to explore Seed4.Me VPN, hoping to enjoy the sterling perks that its developers consistently boast of to new prospects. Thankfully, this VPN was compatible across all my devices so I took out the time to test its functionalities on all of them.

It turns out that Seed4.Me was just another average VPN but with a few trump cards over most lower-level vendors. For one, I was genuinely impressed with the top-range security features made available to all users. This VPN can protect users from internet censorship and basic limitations. Nevertheless, the first hurdle I encountered was the fact that I couldn’t stream my favorite shows on some streaming platforms.

On the flip side, Seed4.Me is an affordable VPN with robust offerings for all price plans. After exhausting its 7-day free plan, I opted for the 3-month plan and had no regrets. Nevertheless, all users are entitled to a 30-day money-back guarantee if the VPN fails to satisfy their demands. If Seed4.Me doesn’t level up to your expectations, there are several excellent VPNs that you can try across a wide range of devices too.

Don’t Have Time? Here’s a 1-Minute Summary

Seed4Me VPN Unblocks Netflix (But Can’t Access BBC iPlayer, Hulu, HBO Max, Amazon Prime Video)

Streaming with Seed4.Me VPN wasn’t entirely satisfactory. The VPN supplier was inadequate in bypassing the firewalls of major video streaming sites. Despite having a feature called “shadow mode,” it couldn’t allow me to access my shows on HBO Max and Amazon Prime Video. However, it did provide access to some other platforms like YouTube, Kodi, All 4, Channel 4, and ESPN.

Seed4.Me’s marketing materials do not explicitly advertise compatibility with streaming applications. Having explored multiple locations and the best features available, I’ve realized that some streaming platforms just can’t be accessed with this VPN. Of course, the locations I chose for streaming didn’t seem to be the reason for this hurdle. It appears that this VPN is leveraging virtual servers thereby making these streaming platforms access the actual location of their servers.

Netflix: Unblocked

Accessing my US Netflix library with Seed4.Me VPN went efficiently — better than I anticipated. I logged into my account as I would do regularly if I streamed with my actual ISP. I carried out a test to detect where the server I was streaming with was located, it indicated it to be in Wichita KS.

Screenshot of streaming Netflix with a Seed4Me VPN server

I streamed the show “Jupiter’s Legacy” on Netflix in HD

Seed4.Me VPN is quite suitable for accessing Netflix US and other libraries as I was able to stream multiple shows in HD without buffering. After long hours of streaming my favorite shows with Seed4.me on Netflix, my connection remained at a decent speed and I wasn’t cut off for once. I did log off at one time and logged in again, this time my server changed to San Jose but my connection was still stable and I continued streaming with relative ease.

BBC iPlayer, Hulu, HBO Max, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+: Blocked

I ran into a brick wall when I tried to use Seed4.Me to stream the alternative streaming platforms. My endeavor to access my BBC iPlayer account through Seed4.Me’s UK server resulted in repeated proxy errors, regardless of my utilization of both the desktop client and its Chrome/Firefox extension.

BBC iPlayer only works in the UK. It’s due to rights issues. In the UK? Here’s some advice.

My attempts to log into my Hulu and HBO Max accounts were thwarted as a result of their blocking mechanism, which was triggered upon the detection of my usage of a VPN. Switching servers didn’t change the situation, and neither did change my browser and my workstation.

Not in Service Area or VPN Detected.

Equally, Amazon Prime Video wouldn’t let me access my account with Seed4.Me. Upon repeated attempts to log into the platform, I encountered a notification indicating that the platform detected the usage of a VPN service. The notification advised me to disconnect the VPN in order to gain access to my account. Adhering to the recommendation, I deactivated the VPN, resulting in seamless access to my Amazon Prime Video collection.

Your device is connected to the internet using a VPN or proxy service. Please disable it and try again.

As you can deduce, Seed4.Me VPN might be a good option for some other features, but not for streaming. Although I was able to stream Netflix fairly well with this VPN, it does not rank up to the exclusive capabilities of a VPN like CyberGhost which boasts a larger server base and the basic integrations to access all these streaming platforms.

Speed

- 4.0 / 10

Seed4Me VPN Isn’t Fast Enough

If you are looking for a great VPN for high-end online activities, Seed4.Me isn’t your best bet — unless you are an average internet user with no need for streaming and other demanding tasks. The difference in my surfing speed when I switched to this VPN was drastic. Task juggling and the launch of software that requires considerable data consumption became particularly challenging on my device.

It is common knowledge that the velocity of VPNs deviates somewhat negatively as compared to your actual internet service provider. Nevertheless, the Seed4.Me VPN has numerous gaps to address if it intends to remain competitive within the proliferating VPN industry.

Speed Test Results

With every server that was farther from my actual location, my internet speed decreased noticeably. Just like most other VPNs, Seed4.Me favors the locations that are closer to you. I began my tests on Seed4.Me VPN with a significantly swift internet speed as my base speed measured up to 58.95 Mbps with an upload speed of 20.15 Mbps.

Screenshot of speed test results on 4 Seed4Me VPN servers

I experienced poor internet speeds on almost all Seed4.Me VPN’s servers

The moment I launched into this VPN provider, I had to say goodbye to double-digit internet speeds. For instance, my server speed when connected to the US location was 7.10 Mbps — a decline of about 85% from my base ISP. The narrative was similar when I plugged into a server supposedly in the United Kingdom as my download speed only ran at 9.53 Mbps. As you would expect, trying to connect to a VPN as far as Australia was a bad idea because my internet speed was reduced by more than 90%. Seed4.Me VPN cannot be compared in terms of speed with ExpressVPN known to only minimally affect internet speed.

Why Most Speed Tests are Pointless & How We Correctly Test VPN Speeds

Speed determines how fast content uploads, so if you're torrenting or streaming, you want the speed to be somewhat identical to your regular internet speed. Since a VPN encrypts your data, it usually takes a bit longer to send your data back and forth, which can slow down your connection. However, if your ISP deliberately slows down your connection (also known as throttling) a VPN might increase your internet speed. Testing a VPN is somewhat pointless because new servers pop up and affect speed. Your speed can also differ according to your location, so your speed test might not match ours. Having said that, we tested the speed in numerous locations to provide you with the average.

Servers

- 7.0 / 10

Server Network — Servers Available in 40+ Locations

Seed4.Me VPN may not possess the highest server count when compared to other VPNs, yet it remains unwaveringly committed to regularly refreshing its server selection. At the time of crafting this review, Seed4.Me currently boasts a server count surpassing 200, spread out over more than 40 countries. The majority of these servers are active in European and American regions.

Regrettably, you can only change your IP location to different countries, but you can’t specifically choose cities. Despite this, my testing of the US location proved successful, with IPLocation detecting three distinct American cities after I connected on three separate occasions.

You have 46 locations to choose from when you use Seed4.Me VPN

This particular VPN provider showcases an impressive offering of cluster-optimized servers tailored to function optimally in an internet-censored locale such as China. Moreover, a substantial array of Asian servers and locations are also available, not limited to China alone, but inclusive of other countries such as Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and even Middle Eastern entities like Israel, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates. Additionally, it boasts torrent-optimized servers stationed in Sweden, Switzerland, and Norway for optimal user experience.

Notwithstanding, Seed4.Me’s server options remain restricted to those offered by leading VPN providers. Take CyberGhost for instance, which presents an impressive array of over 11,670 servers across 100 locations, thereby ensuring optimal accessibility irrespective of your whereabouts. You are welcome to examine the capabilities of CyberGhost VPN, which is backed by a 45-day money-back guarantee.

Editor's Note: Transparency is one of our core values at WizCase, so you should know we are in the same ownership group as CyberGhost VPN. However, this does not affect our review process, as we adhere to a strict testing methodology.

Security — Military-Grade Encryption

Notwithstanding an array of inadequacies, Seed4.Me VPN displays exceptional efficacy in its security mechanisms. Several noticeable security features are provided, comprising:

  • Solid encryption – The allotted size of its SSL certificate runs up to 2048-bit encryption which implies that it provides up to 112-bit security. The certificate allows users to choose different encryption levels, including 256-bit, 128-bit, and lower levels of encryption. In simple terms, it’s close to impossible to break the encryption algorithm of this SSL certificate.
  • Strong protocol option – Seed4.Me VPN boasts the implementation of an OpenVPN protocol that provides you with the ability to establish highly secure VPN connections. It also skillfully utilizes the OpenSSL library, along with the L2TP Protocol, an advanced version of the Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol.
  • Kill switch – Seed4.Me provides a kill switch function, which blocks internet access if your VPN connection fails for any reason. My tests confirmed that this feature works well.
  • Always on Mode – The “Always On” mode automatically connects your device to the VPN server whenever an internet connection is available, ensuring a persistent VPN connection for privacy and security, particularly in corporate environments.
  • Shadow mode – Utilizing the shadow mode function enables one to circumvent the restrictive firewalls implemented on webpages and locations subject to internet censorship, such as those in China and Iran. It should be noted that this attribute is not pre-activated.

Seed4.Me VPN did not leak my IPv4 address

In order to test the DNS protection on this VPN, I subjected it to IPLeak.net testing and found no IPv4 address leaks, which was truly impressive. My webRTC leak examination also yielded a positive outcome. It should be noted that Seed4.Me does not currently offer support for IPv6 addresses.

A significant limitation in the security infrastructure of this VPN lies in its lack of ad-blocking capabilities. During my assessment of the free plan, I was subject to a distressing number of intrusive advertisements, while even those with premium access would still experience some degree of targeted ad content. This may be a concern for individuals prioritizing privacy.

Privacy — Temporarily Logs Data

This US-based company says it does not store user data but logs some user activity. These are stored for about 7 days to detect technical issues and proffer lasting solutions to them.

Screenshot of no-logging policy from Seed4Me VPN's website

Seed4.Me VPN only collects minimal information to improve their services

While this might be quite acceptable, it does leave room for worry. Most VPN providers aren’t often honest about keeping user logs and because only independent auditors can ascertain if this is the truth or not, it becomes increasingly difficult to pinpoint who keeps tabs on your online activities.

As per the service agreement, the legal purview of this VPN lies in the state of Delaware within the United States. However, the prime headquarters of the VPN are not readily discernible on the website. My inquiry to the support staff regarding the primary jurisdiction of this VPN has yet to receive a response. Notably, the US is a preeminent member of intelligence-sharing alliances, such as the 5/9/14 Eyes Alliance. Hence, the possibility of the government requiring the disclosure of user information cannot be discounted. I suggest using ExpressVPN for reliable online privacy, as it boasts an authentic zero-logs regulation that has undergone third-party examination.

Editor's Note: Transparency is one of our core values at WizCase, so you should know we are in the same ownership group as ExpressVPN. However, this does not affect our review process, as we adhere to a strict testing methodology.

Torrenting — Two Dedicated Servers for Torrenting

During my tests, I verified that Seed4.Me is quite a good tool to torrent safely. My confirmation of this VPN’s torrenting capabilities was strengthened after I downloaded multiple movies and heavy software of about 2GB leveraging BitTorrent. I completed the download for each movie in about 4 minutes and that of the software in 25 minutes — pretty decent. These files were downloaded from Legit Torrents which is one of the many sites where you can download torrent files legally.

To enjoy smooth torrenting with this VPN and prevent malware, Seed4.Me has designated servers in two special locations. These servers are based in Switzerland and Sweden and are elegant for nearly all torrent purposes. However, torrenting must be done legally as my colleagues and myself do not support the illegal acquisition of copyrighted materials. Be sure to check local regulations within your jurisdiction before torrenting.

Does Seed4Me VPN Work in China? Yes!

Due to the advanced security features that Seed4.Me VPN offers, it can survive the strict internet censorship in China and other locations. To determine if this VPN would work in China, I sent a message to customer service inquiring about the obtainability of this feature. Interestingly, the response confirmed that I could effectively utilize this VPN in China.

Seed4.Me’s customer support confirms that the VPN can work in China

According to the response I received, I would only be able to use this VPN in China if I download the VPN and enable “shadow mode” before traveling to China. The response further suggested that I should select the UK location while in China due to the availability of newer IPs. It is pertinent to note that Seed4.Me’s website is blocked in China, therefore, you wouldn’t be able to navigate it or make onsite ticket submissions.

User Experience

- 6.0 / 10

Simultaneous Device Connections — Unlimited Simultaneous Connections

With the limitation that the provider’s app must be used, an infinite number of connections can be made to Seed4.Me VPN. The provider, in its Frequently Asked Questions, states that sharing one’s login with a companion is acceptable, but disclosing your login information on public forums is prohibited. I tested this VPN across a wide variety of devices and I was quite satisfied with the performance.

In terms of manual PPTP / L2TP configurations, the provider permits no more than three concurrent connections. However, in the event that additional PPTP / L2TP connections are desired, communication with their support team is necessary.

Device Compatibility — Accessible on Popular Devices

Seed4.Me VPN exhibits cross-platform compatibility with its native applications designed for Windows, MacOS, iOS, Android, Kindle Fire, and Android TV. While there is no provision for a Linux application, you may manually configure the service to employ PPTP and L2TP protocols.

Ease of Setup & Installation — User-Friendly Interface

The installation process of Seed4.Me VPN may not prove to be the most straightforward. Upon completing the download, I was confronted with an issue involving the TAP Network adapter. Initially, I assumed that this problem arose as a result of a download error, prompting me to uninstall and subsequently download the VPN once again. However, to my dismay, the error persisted, so I had to visit the website’s FAQ section for a remedy.

Fortunately, Seed4.Me provides three viable solutions to tackle this issue, which include adding exceptions and reinstalling, enabling the TAP-Windows adapter, and Installing the official OpenVPN driver. Eventually, I had to modify my network adapter settings to enable the TAP-Windows V9 Adapter, which resolved the issue without further complications.

After overcoming this hurdle, I easily launched the software. It is important to note that you can use Seed4.Me without signing up for the first seven days. Seed4.Me offers a seven-day free plan to access all of its services and decide if it is suitable for you. If you decide to sign up for the service, your email address would be required.

There are nine available languages to choose from while using the VPN

Essentially, this vendor has a welcoming interface and is quite easy to navigate. If you enable the “shadow on” mode, you would discover that the interface would change from bright green to gray. Furthermore, Seed4.Me can be explored in 9 different languages including English, French, Spanish, Dutch, and Chinese.

Steps to Installing Seed4.Me VPN on Windows:

  1. Download and install the Seed4.Me app. Go to the Seed4.Me website, and download the Windows client application. Once the download is complete, open the installation file and follow the prompts to install the app on your Windows device.

  2. Log in to Seed4.Me. After installation, open the Seed4.Me app, and log in using your Seed4.Me username and password. You could also avail yourself of the 7-day trial period, which necessitates no authentication credentials.

  4. Start using Seed4.Me. Once you have connected to a VPN server, you can start using Seed4.Me to browse the internet, stream videos, or access content not otherwise available to you while traveling.

Support

- 6.0 / 10

You can only reach customer support through an official email account or via a ticket submission detailing the problems that you need help with. Seed4.Me does not offer a live chat which users often find suitable. I didn’t enjoy the fact that I couldn’t get instant access to customer service, however, the email response was swift enough. My issue was addressed less than an hour after submitting it. The customer support handled my issue professionally and knowledgeably. The information provided was clear and helpful.

For less constricting issues, the VPN has a designated FAQ section where you can find your answers. As I mentioned earlier, the FAQ section greatly helped me fix the TAP adapter issue I encountered after installing the VPN. Moreover, in the blog section of Seed4.Me VPN, one can obtain supplementary knowledge regarding cyber-security matters as well as the entirety of the technological realm; however, the provider’s blog section has not been updated recently.

Lastly, Seed4.me maintains a media presence on social media platforms including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, allowing one to communicate with the company in order to resolve any concerns.

How We Test Customer Support and Why Should You Care

We personally test the customer support team of every VPN we review. This means asking technical question through the live chat feature (where applicable) and measuring the response time for email questions. Whether you need to connect to a specific server, change your security protocol, or configure a VPN on your router, finding a VPN with quality customer support should be important to you.

Seed4Me VPN offers the following plans

Final Verdict

Seed4.Me VPN is a good VPN but only suitable for average activities. If you do not require streaming and would be okay with sacrificing some Mbps, then you can efficiently use this VPN. Since this VPN works in China and offers multiple layers of security, it stands out as one of the safest VPNs out there. Its torrenting capabilities as well as an ever-increasing server base might interest some users too.

Physically, it flaunts a very friendly and easy-to-understand interface. With over 9 languages available, users from several locations around the world would find this VPN very helpful.

Nevertheless, if you would have a hard time coping with a VPN that offers low-level streaming capabilities and speed, CyberGhost VPN would be a better alternative. It has several optimized servers that make streaming much easier while ensuring you stream at decent speeds. You can also secure CyberGhost VPN at reasonable prices to enjoy these features.

FAQs About Seed4Me VPN

Is Seed4.Me VPN good?

Seed4.Me is a good VPN but still has a lot of grounds to cover on speed and streaming capabilities. The most significant features of this VPN are its ease of use, military-grade security layers, and specialized torrenting servers.

Can I use Seed4.Me VPN for free?

You can enjoy 100% of Seed4.Me VPN features for free in the first 7 days. During my tests, I used up the free plan before opting for the three-month plan. There is hardly any difference between the 7-day free plan and the paid version aside from the extended validity of the latter.

However, if you are looking for a VPN that offers more validity for free, there are a few free VPN options worth trying out.

Is Seed4.Me VPN really safe?

Seed4.Me’s security features seem standard with other good VPNs out there. It runs on an OpenVPN protocol to enhance user security and does not leak IPv4 addresses. In addition, it offers personal security settings like the “shadow mode” and “kill-switch”. Seed4.Me maintains that it does not keep user data for any longer than 7 days, so you wouldn’t have to worry about revealing your identity whilst using it. However, there is room for worry since this VPN does not have an ad blocker — invariably suggesting that users might be prone to targeted ads.
