Liberty VPN Review 2024: Before You Buy, Is It Worth It?

Liberty VPN Overview

Liberty VPN keeps it simple and practical when it comes to getting around geo-blocks to stream your favorite content without bleeding your wallet dry. With 10 years of experience in the industry, Liberty VPN is small provider based in the Marshall Islands in the Pacific Ocean that prides itself for its ability to fend off notorious firewalls such China and geo-blocked websites, TV channels, social networks, and VoIP apps like Netflix, Hulu, BBC, Facebook, and more.
Liberty VPN doesn’t impress when it comes to encryption and security. While it relies on 128 and 256-bit encryption to support OpenVPN, SSTP, L2TP, and PPTP, it doesn’t have a kill switch, DNS leak or IP leak protection. However, it works well if you’re planning on spending the summer in internet hostile countries like China, UAE, Brazil, or Saudi Arabia. It has some more perks like unlimited bandwidth, 3 simultaneous connections, and 3-day money-back guarantee. You should also bear in mind that Liberty VPN has a small network of servers and strictly prohibits P2P and torrenting activities, but that doesn’t hamper on speed that much.
What we really didn’t like is that Liberty VPN has practically no software for the platforms it supports, especially if you want to connect to OpenVPN. If you want to connect to other platforms, it requires a series of steps and dealing with a basic software. If you ever find yourself unsure or uncertain, you can rely on Liberty VPN’s exceptional FAQ section and a reliable support team that is readily available through email communication.

Why Most Speed Tests are Pointless & How We Correctly Test VPN Speeds

Speed determines how fast content uploads, so if you're torrenting or streaming, you want the speed to be somewhat identical to your regular internet speed. Since a VPN encrypts your data, it usually takes a bit longer to send your data back and forth, which can slow down your connection. However, if your ISP deliberately slows down your connection (also known as throttling) a VPN might increase your internet speed. Testing a VPN is somewhat pointless because new servers pop up and affect speed. Your speed can also differ according to your location, so your speed test might not match ours. Having said that, we tested the speed in numerous locations to provide you with the average.

User Experience

- 8.4 / 10

Liberty VPN doesn’t trot out an advanced or intuitive software clients. In fact, Liberty VPN clients for supported platforms are sort of antique when it comes to design and ease of use. As for OpenVPN, you need to manually install and connect to OpenVPN GUI in order to connect to one of Liberty VPN’s servers. Clients for other protocols such as SSTP, L2TP/IPsec, and PPTP are easier to connect to through a small set of steps listed on the website. Despite its unattractive apps, connection is stable with this VPN and speeds aren’t bad at all. We’ve seen far better, but Liberty VPN will get the job done when it comes to streaming content online.

How We Test Customer Support and Why Should You Care

We personally test the customer support team of every VPN we review. This means asking technical question through the live chat feature (where applicable) and measuring the response time for email questions. Whether you need to connect to a specific server, change your security protocol, or configure a VPN on your router, finding a VPN with quality customer support should be important to you.
