Encrypt.me Review 2024: Before You Buy, Is It Worth It?
Encrypt.me Overview
2024 UPDATE! Encrypt.me has merged with StrongVPN and no longer exists as a separate product. Existing users will still be able to use their original credentials. Find out more about StrongVPN.
Editor's Note: Transparency is one of our core values at WizCase, so you should know we are in the same ownership group as ExpressVPN. However, this does not affect our review process, as we adhere to a strict testing methodology.
While Encrypt.me is a decent VPN, you can get better quality VPNs at an affordable price. ExpressVPN for example offers premium VPN features for a low monthly fee — so you don’t have to settle for less.
If you’re looking for a strong VPN to get around geo-restrictions and access your favorite streaming websites like Netflix, Hulu, BBC iPlayer, then Encrypt.me isn’t the one for you. However, if you’re a frequent public WiFi/hotspot user such as those found in cafes, airports, or hotels, then Encrypt.me is a good option. Encrypt.me, originally known as Clock VPN, is focused 100% on providing safety on untrusted WiFi networks. The company used to provide VPN services only for Mac OS and iOS devices, but they recently introduced apps for Android, Windows, and Amazon Fire, offering broader opportunities for different mobile users who are always on the go and concerned about transmitting sensitive data over public networks. Encrypt.me may not strike as a well-rounded VPN with a sterling set of features, but it makes a lot of effort to deliver sleek and intuitive apps for portable devices connected to public networks. In addition, Encrypt.me offers a diverse selection of price plans for individuals, teams, or even family members together with a 14-day free trial and a 30-day refund policy. Don’t expect much from this VPN, but for something as simple as safety on public networks, this VPN does the job.
Speed
- 7.4 / 10Why Most Speed Tests are Pointless & How We Correctly Test VPN Speeds
Speed determines how fast content uploads, so if you're torrenting or streaming, you want the speed to be somewhat identical to your regular internet speed. Since a VPN encrypts your data, it usually takes a bit longer to send your data back and forth, which can slow down your connection. However, if your ISP deliberately slows down your connection (also known as throttling) a VPN might increase your internet speed. Testing a VPN is somewhat pointless because new servers pop up and affect speed. Your speed can also differ according to your location, so your speed test might not match ours. Having said that, we tested the speed in numerous locations to provide you with the average.

User Experience
- 8.4 / 10Although encrypt.me came a long way and introduced native apps for more platforms in addition to Mac OS and iOS, when we tested their native beta app for Windows, it was a bumpy ride. First of all, expect multiple interruptions from your firewall and antivirus, but once you authorize the app, you’re in for a long and boring setup process. After almost 20 minutes and a couple of failed try outs, we managed to set the app on our Windows desktop and we didn’t enjoy every bit of it. When you click on the “Transporter” option to connect to a server, the app shows no indication whatsoever whether you’re connected or not.
Before you make a final decision, we highly recommend you check out some alternative VPNs which may offer better features and prices.
Support
- 8.4 / 10How We Test Customer Support and Why Should You Care
We personally test the customer support team of every VPN we review. This means asking technical question through the live chat feature (where applicable) and measuring the response time for email questions. Whether you need to connect to a specific server, change your security protocol, or configure a VPN on your router, finding a VPN with quality customer support should be important to you.
