Celo VPN Review 2024: Before You Buy, Is It Worth It?

Celo VPN Overview

While CELO is a decent VPN, you can get better quality VPNs at an affordable price. Surfshark, for example, offers premium VPN features for a super low monthly fee — so you don’t have to settle for less.

CELO is an Australian based service that focuses on providing users with access to reliable VPN servers in top destinations and strong encryption. For added security, CELO uses SOCKS5 & SHADOWSOCKS proxy in protecting your data and a two factor authentication system in protecting your account. For no extra cost, this VPN provider goes the extra mile by offering DDoS protection on all subscription plans to prevent attacks on any of your devices.

In terms of unlocking web services like Facebook, Whatsapp and even Netflix, CELO is fairly reliable as it flawlessly bypasses geo-blocks and restrictions from these content providers and ISPs. It’s servers are quite fast and this complements its provision of unlimited bandwidth. If you’re a P2P enthusiast, it’s worth noting that CELO places no restrictions on torrenting. Generally, CELO’s 15 servers in 15 countries are fairly reliable for all purposes.

Why Most Speed Tests are Pointless & How We Correctly Test VPN Speeds

Speed determines how fast content uploads, so if you're torrenting or streaming, you want the speed to be somewhat identical to your regular internet speed. Since a VPN encrypts your data, it usually takes a bit longer to send your data back and forth, which can slow down your connection. However, if your ISP deliberately slows down your connection (also known as throttling) a VPN might increase your internet speed. Testing a VPN is somewhat pointless because new servers pop up and affect speed. Your speed can also differ according to your location, so your speed test might not match ours. Having said that, we tested the speed in numerous locations to provide you with the average.

User Experience

Once you sign up for a CELO account and complete the payment for your chosen subscription plan, you’ll promptly receive a confirmation email containing information about your subscription and instructions on connecting to the service. With those details, you should be able to download the OpenVPN client for your device and login to the CELO. Once you login, you should be able to switch between servers seamlessly. CELO is a great service to use but the unavailability of dedicated apps is a real letdown.

Apart from not having dedicated clients for any platform, another major concern with using CELO is that it records partial and temporary logs which isn’t really ideal for anyone seeking total anonymity online.

CELO might offer a good service at a reasonable price, but does it match up with other top VPNs? We find it hard to say “yes”. To be sure you’re choosing the right VPN for your needs, review this list of top recommended VPNs.

How We Test Customer Support and Why Should You Care

We personally test the customer support team of every VPN we review. This means asking technical question through the live chat feature (where applicable) and measuring the response time for email questions. Whether you need to connect to a specific server, change your security protocol, or configure a VPN on your router, finding a VPN with quality customer support should be important to you.
