Goose VPN Review 2024: Before You Buy, Is It Worth It?

Goose VPN Overview

If you’re in a hurry, here’s the bottom line — You can get more servers globally, better VPN features, and 24/7 customer support with Surfshark for the same price or less. So why bother reading on?!

Dutch provider GooseVPN has been around since 2016, and in a short time span it has shown that it cares about providing a great service for its loyal user base.

There are a lot of strengths to this VPN — for starters, it supports a variety of protocols, including OpenVPN, L2TP/IPSec, PPTP, and IKEv2. 256-bit AES encryption, in addition to an RSA-2048 handshake, offer reliable levels of security.

Your privacy is in “safe hands”, too — that is, there are no connection logs or prolonged data gathering to speak of. The only information GooseVPN does collect during your sessions is deleted as soon as you close the VPN.

Torrenting and P2P enthusiasts also have cause for celebration. GooseVPN has no issues with making its support for P2P servers official, which is a refreshing change of pace with so many providers either remaining hush-hush on the matter, or actively discouraging these activities.

GooseVPN’s server network is compact but efficient at 60+ servers in 28 countries. The provider claims it adds new servers every 2 weeks, and even has a server request page where users can vote on their preferred additions to the roster.

You also get streaming-optimized servers for unblocking sought-after geoblocked services (you know what we’re talking about).

That’s not all — you also get responsive, competent customer support, great client design, decent plans, and a 30-day money-back guarantee. The result is a VPN that covers a lot of ground without too many weak spots.

We’re very happy to see that Goose VPN has upgraded their app to include a kill switch.

The bottom line? GooseVPN offers great value, even if it’s a bit on the pricey side, although if you get the 3 year subscription, you’ll save big. You get almost everything you can ask for in a VPN, with superb customer care to match it.

Speed

- 7.2 / 10

Did you know geese can fly at speeds up to 50 miles an hour? That’s pretty fast — unfortunately, GooseVPN isn’t much of a speed demon by comparison.

In other words, this VPN will slow you down, especially if you use the widely recommended OpenVPN protocol.

Fortunately, connecting to one of the streaming-optimized servers will solve any buffering problems you might otherwise run into as you watch your favorite movies and clips.

All in all, GooseVPN’s speeds can be considered unimpressive, but it gets the job done if you choose the right locations. Still, we’d like to see more consistency here.

Why Most Speed Tests are Pointless & How We Correctly Test VPN Speeds

Speed determines how fast content uploads, so if you're torrenting or streaming, you want the speed to be somewhat identical to your regular internet speed. Since a VPN encrypts your data, it usually takes a bit longer to send your data back and forth, which can slow down your connection. However, if your ISP deliberately slows down your connection (also known as throttling) a VPN might increase your internet speed. Testing a VPN is somewhat pointless because new servers pop up and affect speed. Your speed can also differ according to your location, so your speed test might not match ours. Having said that, we tested the speed in numerous locations to provide you with the average.

Servers

User Experience

- 8.6 / 10

Working with GooseVPN is a joy, with minimal configuration required by the user. The only exception is Linux, where pretty much everything from installation to protocols must be done manually.

The clients are intuitive across the board, serving up all relevant info and even short descriptions of the various protocols — great for newbies!

The VPN does not have an automatic connection feature, but activating it only takes a single click once you have selected your preferred VPN protocol. The server list is easily accessible and includes helpful icons that indicate P2P and streaming servers.

It’s worth noting that the available VPN protocols change from platform to platform. For example, MacOS and iOS don’t have PPTP, and OpenVPN isn’t supported on MacOS X.

Support

- 9.2 / 10

We have nothing but good words for GooseVPN’s support. Although its live chat isn’t available 24/7, the VPN more than makes up for that with its super responsive ticket system. GooseVPN claims ticket replies won’t take longer than 2 hours, and in our experience it delivered on that promise.

There’s also a detailed FAQ section consisting of 8 different categories — there are over 100 covered topics in total, covering anything from account inquiries to setup guides for routers.

How We Test Customer Support and Why Should You Care

We personally test the customer support team of every VPN we review. This means asking technical question through the live chat feature (where applicable) and measuring the response time for email questions. Whether you need to connect to a specific server, change your security protocol, or configure a VPN on your router, finding a VPN with quality customer support should be important to you.

Pricing

- 8.2 / 10

In addition to the industry-standard yearly/monthly plan, GooseVPN also offers a monthly plan that’s limited to 50GB of bandwidth. It’s ridiculously cheap and a great option for those who’ll be using a VPN for data-light purposes.

The unlimited monthly plan, however, will set you back considerably in comparison with other VPNs. By contrast, annual subscriptions are much lighter on your pocket.

Here’s the good news — every plan comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

GooseVPN accepts credit cards (VISA, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, Maestro) and PayPal as payment methods.

GooseVPN might offer a good service at a reasonable price, but does it match up with other top VPNs? We find it hard to say “yes”. To be sure you’re choosing the right VPN for your needs, review this list of top recommended VPNs.
