Anonymous VPN Review 2024: Before You Buy, Is It Worth It?
Anonymous VPN Overview
Considering that Anonymous VPN is a newer and smaller VPN, I was curious to see if it could compete with more established options. I was particularly interested in Anonymous VPN’s streaming ability, speed, security, and how its trial version compares to a paid subscription. I also looked at Anonymous VPN’s privacy policy to verify its validity and put its customer support team to the test.
After testing the service, I was impressed by its privacy policy and ease of use, but the lack of US servers was concerning. Your peace of mind is also guaranteed by this VPN’s convenient headquarters in Seychelles. This means that Anonymous VPN won’t have to comply with any government entities or store data. As for performance, Anonymous VPN was average. The server network was passable, but my connection speed was inconsistent.
If you want to check out the service’s features, you can try Anonymous VPN’s premium plan risk-free by making use of its 14-day money-back guarantee if you aren’t completely satisfied with the service. Unfortunately, the money-back guarantee comes with a catch. Refunds are only available for data consumption of 500MB or lower. Many times, you can even find a better deal on top VPN services.

Anonymous VPN Unblocks Netflix, BBC iPlayer, and Amazon Prime Video (But Can’t Access Hulu, HBO Max, and Disney+)
I found that Anonymous VPN works well with some streaming platforms; however, the limited server network could potentially lead to platforms easily blacklisting this VPN in the future due to limited available IP addresses.
My ISP blocks certain sites as a result of my frequent travels, so I use a VPN to access US streaming libraries. Based on my testing, the application fails to deliver on this front. This is because Anonymous VPN has no US servers. Thus, I recommend that you take the $1 trial version of Anonymous VPN to be sure it unblocks the content you want to access.
Netflix, BBC iPlayer, and Amazon Prime Video: Unblocked
Anonymous VPN didn’t offer a comprehensive unblocking experience, but my colleagues had no trouble accessing Netflix, BBC iPlayer, and Amazon Prime Video.
While I couldn’t access the US Netflix library, my colleagues in the UK, Canada, and Germany were consistently able to access their respective Netflix libraries. When they tried watching the series Squid Game, the stream quality took a few seconds to become full HD when connected to distant regions. Your experience will differ based on which servers are closest to you, as my colleagues observed while testing.
Anonymous VPN’s UK server allowed my colleague to access all Amazon Prime Video content instantly. His experience with Coming 2 America was seamless. The stream loaded in just two seconds, and the quality increased to full HD in just ten seconds.
Since BBC iPlayer is a UK-restricted streaming platform, I asked a colleague who lives in the UK to test out BBC iPlayer for me.
Thankfully, he was able to unblock the platform and watch multiple episodes of Ridley Road in HD using Anonymous VPN. Plus, every episode loaded in less than 4 seconds.
Disney+, Hulu, and HBO Max: Blocked
I was unable to test Disney+, Hulu, and HBO Max since Anonymous VPN does not offer US servers. If accessing any of the blocked streaming platforms is what you’re after, I’d suggest ExpressVPN for its comprehensive streaming capabilities.

Speed
- 5.0 / 10Inconsistent Speeds Across All Servers
Results were somewhat inconsistent — there was considerable variation in download speeds across servers. Also, my upload speed was impacted more severely by Anonymous VPN than my download speed. Despite that, I was still able to browse and stream content with no problems. Specifically, I tested servers in the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Australia, and Japan — with Canada and France being the fastest.
Speed Test Results
These results were not consistent and did not live up to expectations. I experienced speeds ranging from 4% to 82% of my original connection speed, depending on the server I was connected to.
Before I tested Anonymous VPN, I performed a speed test to have a basis for comparison. Without a VPN, I had 24.46 Mbps download, 1.78 Mbps upload, and 38ms ping.
Using Anonymous VPN’s automatic connect feature, which connects you to the best nearby server, I connected to a local server in Canada. The server gave me a 21.07 Mbps download speed and a 1.59 Mbps upload speed.
When connected to a server in France, my average download speed was 23.42 Mbps. I was impressed considering the distance from my physical location. Although my download speed dropped to 12.41 Mbps when I connected to a server in Germany, which showed that there was quite a bit of variance in speeds when connecting to distant servers.
Next, I tested the speed of servers in Australia and Japan. Because these servers were much farther away than my physical location, my download speed dropped by more than 80% and my upload speed fell to a fraction of its base speed.
Unfortunately, the speed results weren’t consistent across all servers I tested. My connection was good on servers close to my location, but my download speed slowed on distant servers. Instead, check how I never dropped more than 25% in speed using ExpressVPN regardless of the server location.
Why Most Speed Tests are Pointless & How We Correctly Test VPN Speeds
Speed determines how fast content uploads, so if you're torrenting or streaming, you want the speed to be somewhat identical to your regular internet speed. Since a VPN encrypts your data, it usually takes a bit longer to send your data back and forth, which can slow down your connection. However, if your ISP deliberately slows down your connection (also known as throttling) a VPN might increase your internet speed. Testing a VPN is somewhat pointless because new servers pop up and affect speed. Your speed can also differ according to your location, so your speed test might not match ours. Having said that, we tested the speed in numerous locations to provide you with the average.
Servers
- 3.0 / 10Server Network — Lists 23 Servers in 23 Countries
Anonymous VPN has a limited number of servers compared to other VPNs. It only has 23 servers spread out over 23 countries. Despite the server network being quite reliable, the limited number of servers per country can cause server overload, resulting in slower connections.
Another limitation of the company’s server network is its concentration in Europe and Asia. It’s disappointing to see that no South American countries are included, and just one African country is represented.
Even worse, switching servers requires you to first disconnect from the server you are currently connected to. It is best to opt for a more established and larger VPN like Cyberghost if you want a global network of servers.

Security — Military-Grade Security With a Kill Switch
The overall security of Anonymous VPN is adequate for protecting your personal information. Anonymous VPN uses two security protocols — OpenVPN and IPsec. AES-256bit encryption is used by both of these security protocols, which has been proven to be very secure.
Unfortunately, IPsec has some disadvantages, such as a weaker encryption algorithm and limited portability when compared to OpenVPN. As a result, I prefer OpenVPN over IPsec the majority of the time. If there is any kind of connection issue then you might want to try the IPsec protocol as it can offer better performance.
You’ll find a couple of other valuable features once you explore the client in greater depth. Specifically, I’m talking about the kill switch, which will sever your connection to the internet and keep your data safe in the event of a connection loss. You can choose to automatically connect every time you start the app. The app will also allow you to manually select a protocol or use the automatic connection feature.
Anonymous VPN uses dynamic IP addresses, which I think is very useful because a dynamic IP address changes every time you connect to the internet. The benefit of this is that sites and outside viewers will have more trouble finding out your real location.
As part of my test, I also tested for DNS and IP leaks. Test execution was carried out on a server located in the UK. My tests revealed that Anonymous VPN successfully masked my actual location without leaking any sensitive information.
Privacy — Not Zero Logs, but Safe Enough
Anonymous VPN does not store any logs such as your online activity, browsing history, or any other information. So if any government or law enforcement officials show up with a warrant asking for your data, the company will have no data to give. Moreover, all of your data and activity are encrypted, meaning if someone was to intercept and capture some of your data, they would not be able to use it.
Email addresses and other personal information that the VPN service collects from you will be stored on its secure servers. The company promises not to disclose this information to third parties and that it will only use it to better understand the needs of its customers. Truly, it appears that Anonymous VPN makes a strong commitment to undisturbed privacy, as the service restricts email communications.
While an email address is required to register, you won’t be inundated with newsletters or advertisements. The company won’t send you any unsolicited emails besides the obligatory welcome email.
Even better, the VPN is based in Seychelles, a country with no laws regarding data retention. It falls outside the purview of agencies and alliances that are known to violate the privacy of individuals.
Torrenting — P2P Sharing Supported on all Servers
Anonymous VPN excels in this area as well. This service not only supports torrenting, but it also allows it on all 23 servers. The VPN features unlimited bandwidth, DNS leak protection, a kill switch, and a no-logs policy, which are all features that are ideal for securely downloading torrents.
All servers supporting P2P sharing eliminate the need to search for specific server types. Additionally, the service uses SOCKS5, which is a key protocol for torrenting. SOCKS5 is an internet protocol used to route web traffic via a remote server. Running SOCKS5 proxy through a VPN can provide good security, as you won’t be reliant on a single entity for your anonymity.
However, it should be noted that my team and I do not endorse illegal torrenting, so you should make sure you are in compliance with your local laws and regulations.
Does Anonymous VPN Work in China? No!
Anonymous VPN does not provide special servers or settings to cope with heavy censorship and is unsuitable for countries like China. Obfuscation protocols and stealth servers are usually necessary for bypassing heavy censorship. Sadly, these technologies are not offered by many providers, including Anonymous VPN.
Besides, Anonymous VPN customer support has also acknowledged that its services are not accessible from China. Thus, if you’re in China and want to access foreign sites and social media platforms, Anonymous VPN can’t help you because of the Great Firewall of China.
As one of the most popular VPNs in China, ExpressVPN has become a go-to provider for many because it is well-suited to bypass the Great Firewall. The wide selection of ExpressVPN servers in different locations is a big plus in this case with Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Japan servers being of particular importance. However, note that VPNs that are not approved by the Chinese government are illegal, but no cases of tourists being penalized have been reported.

User Experience
- 5.0 / 10Simultaneous Device Connections — Unlimited but with a Catch
Anonymous VPN’s unlimited simultaneous connection limit is impressive and ranks among the highest I’ve seen.
The VPN can be used with multiple devices simultaneously, so the service is ideal if you’re a large family with multiple smartphones or if you frequently use public Wi-Fi. Although I didn’t experience restricted access, the company says it reserves the right to limit access to 3 devices in case of high traffic.
Alternatively, you can connect as many devices as you like simultaneously with IPVanish, and the number of devices you can use will never be limited during high-traffic periods.
Device Compatibility — Compatible with Windows, Mac, and Android
Anonymous VPN falls short when it comes to device support. The client is only available for Windows, Macs, and Androids. While there is no iOS version available, you can still access the service by downloading OpenVPN from the App Store, followed by obtaining the region files directly from Anonymous VPN’s website, and then manually importing them into the OpenVPN application.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the only device that requires this. Anonymous VPN runs on routers as well, but you first have to download the setup file from the Anonymous VPN site, including setup instructions.
Ease of Setup & Installation — Fairly Simple Setup and Installation Process
Anonymous VPN is very simple to download and set up. The setup takes just a minute, and everything is automatically configured with minimal user input.
My initial impression of the Windows client wasn’t very promising. As soon as I downloaded and installed the software, I was greeted with a dull, undersigned connection menu that was the polar opposite of the well-designed website. I was further convinced about the simplicity of the client when I discovered that the connection menu functions as the region selection interface too. It requires you to enter your login information and select a location in one screen. While the simplicity of the interface makes it easy for beginners to use, the client lacks depth and design.
Nevertheless, I found a few positive aspects as well. One convenience, for instance, is that you do not have to disconnect to restart your IP. There is also the option of choosing TCP or UDP ports in the options menu, or you can let the software decide.
Support
- 4.0 / 10My experience with the company’s customer support was positive in some respects but disappointing in others. To begin with, there is a knowledge base section that provides a variety of tutorials that can help you set up your VPN connections. Unfortunately, these tutorials are not as thorough as I would have liked them to be and only provide guidance on a few topics.
The lack of a live chat option was also disappointing. Offering live chat support has become the industry norm for obvious reasons — it’s quick and convenient. But the company claims that its representatives can be reached 24/7 via email. To contact Anonymous VPN support, look for the FAQ section of the website using the links in the header or footer. Then, in the navigation bar on your left, click “Open Ticket” to contact the company, after which you will receive an email reply. I received replies to my inquiries within nine hours, and the explanations were precise and easy to follow.
The program does not provide a troubleshooting guide for those who run into technical problems — nor are there any forums where users and developers can discuss with each other.
How We Test Customer Support and Why Should You Care
We personally test the customer support team of every VPN we review. This means asking technical question through the live chat feature (where applicable) and measuring the response time for email questions. Whether you need to connect to a specific server, change your security protocol, or configure a VPN on your router, finding a VPN with quality customer support should be important to you.
Pricing
- 5.0 / 10The monthly subscription fee for this VPN is extremely high, especially considering top VPNs charge about the same. The yearly subscription is average at best and is only worth buying if Anonymous VPN can meet your specific requirements better than most VPNs.
Anonymous VPN is available on two subscription plans — a monthly plan and a yearly plan. However, it disappoints me that there is no way to test out the service for free. You have to pay even for the trial account, as there are no free plans. In this case, you have a 72-hour license to use the client, but a small fee is charged. I still think it’s worth a shot since the trial plan offers unrestricted access.
There’s a 14-day money-back guarantee membership for both plans. Regrettably, there are specific limitations placed on the money-back guarantee. As a result, I chose to try out the low-cost 3-day trial to evaluate Anonymous VPN. It’s important to note that this option is only available to first-time users of the service. Thus, if you decide to go with a yearly account after one month, you cannot reverse your decision within two weeks. Secondly, using more than 500 MB of bandwidth and/or connecting over a hundred times also invalidates the right to a refund.
There are very few payment options — you’ll only be able to pay with a debit or credit card. Unfortunately, this is a huge disadvantage since numerous VPN providers accept various payment types, including Paypal and Bitcoin.
Anonymous VPN offers the following plans
Final Verdict
Anonymous VPN is a decent VPN but with some potential for improvement. It unblocks some streaming sites that are not based in the US without any issues and boasts excellent security features. Its biggest advantages are that it allows an unlimited number of simultaneous device connections and offers IP/DNS leak protection.
Unfortunately, Anonymous VPN’s speeds aren’t the best, especially if you intend to connect to a distant server. Additionally, it does not unblock US Netflix, has a very small server network, lacks a live chat feature, does not support iOS, and is quite expensive. If you’re looking for a full-fledged VPN service, try ExpressVPN to enjoy the internet to the fullest.

FAQs About Anonymous VPN
Is Anonymous VPN good?
Can I use Anonymous VPN for free?
No, free trials are not available for this tool. However, the product offers a 3-day trial for a small fee, giving you a chance to try out the service before signing up for a longer subscription. Likewise, the refund policy is limiting. The company has added some strange conditions, such as using less than 500 MB and connecting to the server no more than 100 times. The worst part is that trial users are not eligible to receive a refund on long-term plans.
I don’t like to recommend free VPNs due to the lack of security and privacy features. However, if you are looking to try a VPN but don’t want to spend any money yet, these are a few reliable options that you can test out.
Is Anonymous VPN really safe?
Yes. Anonymous VPN is very safe as it employs the strongest commercial security and encryption protocols. It uses 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption to ensure high-level encryption. It also has a strict logging policy to ensure you are protected while connected to any server.
Furthermore, Anonymous VPN features a kill switch. This function cuts off your internet connection after losing connection to your VPN server, which means your IP address is not exposed when not connected to the VPN network.
