Reading time: 2 min

OpenAI launched yesterday a new AI model, ChatGPT Pro, with a monthly subscription that costs $200. Members of this new tier will be able to access the latest model, which the company described as the “smartest” model in the world and includes enhanced reasoning in math, coding, and scientific research.

In a Rush? Here are the Quick Facts!

  • OpenAI launched a new model ChatGPT Pro, its latest and “smartest” model
  • Those who want access to the Pro version must pay $200 a month
  • Users with ChaGPT Plus and other paid subscriptions now have access to the o1 model

Sam Altman, the startup’s CEO, also announced that members with a paid subscription—including the $20 subscription for ChatGPT Plus— now have full access to the model o1, an advanced and optimized model family announced in September and launched on preview mode and the affordable version the o1-mini.

The recent release of ChatGPT Pro—which includes unlimited access to GPT-4o, Advance Voice, o1-mini, and the new OpenAI o1—comes as part of the company’s12 Christmas initiative of “12 Days of OpenAI” that started yesterday in which they will announce a new update or share a demo in a live stream every weekday.

“Today, we’re adding ChatGPT Pro, a $200 monthly plan that enables scaled access to the best of OpenAI’s models and tools,” shared the company on its website. “ChatGPT Pro provides a way for researchers, engineers, and other individuals who use research-grade intelligence daily to accelerate their productivity and be at the cutting edge of advancements in AI.”

According to the details shared by OpenAI, the new model o1pro takes a little more time to provide accurate responses—subscribers to the new tier will have to wait a little longer for the reply and will see a progress bar—but is considerably superior to its recent predecessors o1-mini and o1-preview. OpenAI compared all models in math, code, and PhD-level science 1 questions.
